Monthly Update – October 2026

| Important Announcements

All Groups and Sections are now back up and running across the Region. Squirrels, Beavers, Cubs, Scouts, Explorers and Network are into their new term programmes, and September has brought the usual burst of energy: full halls, noisy games, and adventure.

Looking Ahead to 2027 — Two Dates for Your Diary

Planning is now underway for two major events in 2027, and we need to hear from Groups early so we can build them properly.

🎖️ Founders’ Day Parade – Saturday 27th February 2027

West Region will mark Founders’ Day on Saturday 27 February 2027 with a parade and celebration in the Paisley & District Area.

There will be a call to walk through the camp event plan and share further information in the coming weeks. Details and joining instructions will be shared soon.

Jamboree on the Air

📅 17th/18th October · Greenock & Districdt Scout HQ

When Scouts want to meet young people from another country they usually think of attending a World Jamboree or another International gathering. But few people realize that each year about half-a-million Scouts and Guides “get together” over the Airwaves for the annual Jamboree-on-the-Air (JOTA).  JOTA is a real Jamboree during which Scouting experiences are exchanged and ideas are shared.

JOTA is an ideal opportunity for young people and their leaders from the District & Region to see what happens during the annual JOTA event and also to have a chat with some of the District’s radio operators about Amateur Radio.

Kayak Leaders

Whether you’re completely new to kayaking or already have some paddling experience, this could be a great opportunity to develop new skills, gain recognised qualifications and help young people experience the excitement and adventure of kayaking.

We’re looking to hear from Leaders who are interested in getting involved, developing their paddling skills and potentially progressing through the Scouting water activities leadership pathway.

Lapwing Lodge Campstaff

Open to Explorer Scouts aged 14-17, this is a unique chance to spend time outdoors, learn new skills, gain recognised qualifications and become part of a close-knit team. You will be based at Lapwing Lodge on the Gleniffer Braes, with Caplaw Dam, woodland, open countryside and a wide range of activities right on your doorstep.

As a member of the campstaff team, you could work towards activity permits, make progress towards your top awards, help welcome visitors, support activities and help with the day-to-day running of the centre all while building confidence, develop leadership skills and make new friends from across the Region.

You do not need to arrive with lots of experience. What matters most is being willing to learn, get involved and help others enjoy their time at Lapwing Lodge. Training and support will be provided, and there will be opportunities to take part throughout the year, depending on your availability.
