Lapwing Lodge is a place of memories. You won’t remember a summer spent scrolling social media on your phone, but you will remember campfires under the stars, talking long into the night and making lifelong friendships.

Now Lapwing Lodge is offering you the chance be part of the excellent campstaff team. We need you to help make those memories for the next generation of young people and help the centre be a welcoming, exciting and memorable place for everyone who visits.

Open to Explorer Scouts aged 14-17, this is a unique chance to spend time outdoors, learn new skills, gain recognised qualifications and become part of a close-knit team. You will be based at Lapwing Lodge on the Gleniffer Braes, with Caplaw Dam, woodland, open countryside and a wide range of activities right on your doorstep.

As a member of the campstaff team, you could:

  • Work towards activity permits in kayaking, canoeing, archery and tomahawk throwing.
  • Make progress towards your Chief Scout’s Award, Duke of Edinburgh’s Award and King’s Scout Award.
  • Help welcome visitors to the hostel and campsite.
  • Support activities and help with the day-to-day running of the centre.
  • Build confidence, develop leadership skills and make new friends from across the Region.

You do not need to arrive with lots of experience. What matters most is being willing to learn, get involved and help others enjoy their time at Lapwing Lodge. Training and support will be provided, and there will be opportunities to take part throughout the year, depending on your availability.

This is about much more than helping at an outdoor centre. It is a chance to challenge yourself, discover what you are capable of and help create the kind of experiences that young people remember long after the tents have been packed away.
